OUR mission statment
Our goal is to provide the highest quality of service for youth 13-18 years of age who will be transitioning to adulthood and independent/semi-independent living; by promoting positive development and a sense of belonging through the employment of a milieu that has a therapeutic effect, which provides an idealized setting for youth to work through their emotional, behavioural and social issues. Our programs are developed for adolescent males between the ages of 13-18 with emotional, cognitive, behavioural and social challenges who may have had placement breakdowns in the past and who would benefit from a short or long-term placement in a positive mentorship-based group care environment. Long-term placements are preferred in order to provide the young people with the suitable opportunities for stability, assurance, and skills coaching toward independence. This program would benefit youth who are working toward family reintegration and those working on developing the skills necessary in preparation for independent or semi-independent living.
OUR PROGRAM philosophy
At Horizon Family Homes and Human Services Inc., we believe that every youth deserves a nurturing, safe, stable environment that is supportive and can enrich their lives, as well as foster their growth and development. Youth are empowered and encouraged to take responsibility for their actions. Through role modeling, coaching and positive reinforcement, and by helping each youth recognize and learn the skills to overcome potential obstacles, youth realize personal success and become motivated towards further growth and development. We believe that with monitoring, structure and consistency coupled with healthy relationships formed with skilled caregivers and positive role models who utilize a nurturing mentorship-based approach, that every youth in our care can learn skills, realize goals, overcome obstacles and utilize every opportunity they get to grow and develop. We believe that by allowing each youth to feel accepted and a sense of belonging in an environment that promotes respect for oneself and others, positive self-value and esteem and the development of social and life skills, that youth will be empowered and better prepared to transition into independent living.
